These are our recommendation for those just getting started in skateboarding.
We recommend getting a complete ready-to-roll skateboard. You can pick and choose the parts and build a custom complete setup, but we find that getting a ready made complete usually does the trick. Besides, you can always upgrade your setup once you get a hang of it and know what your requirements are.
Skateboard decks vary in width from 7.5" to 8.25". The width you need will depend on your height, shoe size, skating style and personal preferences.
If the board too wide for you, you will need to exert excessive power, which can make skateboarding and executing tricks difficult. If you choose a board with a too-small width for you, you'll have trouble balancing and won't feel stable.
Most teen and adult riders will want at least a 7.5" width, but a wider board may feel more stable depending on your build and shoe size.
Here are some general guidelines:
- 6.5"-7.5" width: Kids below 102cm / below age 6 / shoe size US1 and below
- 7.0" width: Older kids between 102-130cm / age 6-8 / shoe size between US2-5
- 7.25"-7.5" width: Young teens between 130-160cm / age 9-12 / shoe size between US6-7
- 7.5"-7.9" width: Adults 160cm and above / age 13 and above / shoe sise US7-8
- 8.0" width and above: Adults 160cm and above / age 13 and above / shoe size US9 and above
However, if you're looking for a longboard or cruiser style skateboard with softer and larger wheels to ride on the road or pump the bowl at the skatepark you can start with any size.
We highly recommend getting a padset and helmet to stay safe while you get started on your skating journey.
